Today, youth face complex challenges. Lack of employment, precarious work and the need for new skills in a constantly changing market are just some of them. However, in the midst of these challenges, there is a unique opportunity: to build bridges between public policy and technological development, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).
In this article, we explore how the formulation of youth ordinances, driven by empowerment programs in public policies, can be a driver for change. Through two concrete examples, in La Troncal, Ecuador and Cúcuta, Colombia, we see how it is possible to achieve the inclusion of work and the productive chain for young people from 18 to 29 years.
In the town of La Troncal, youth have taken an active role in politics. Through a strengthening program, they have been able to push for the creation of a youth ordinance. This legal framework not only seeks to recognize young people as key actors in local development, but also lays the foundation for programmes and projects focused on their needs.
The ordinance addresses issues such as technology training and entrepreneurship, recognizing AI as a powerful tool for personal and professional growth. Can you imagine a young man from Troncal using AI to optimize agricultural production in the area or to create a digital services startup?
This political advocacy process demonstrates that when young people have the right tools and support, they can transform their environment. It’s not just about getting help, but being part of the solution.
Cúcuta, Colombia: Incidence and productive chain
In Cúcuta, a city with great challenges in terms of youth employment, the strategy is different, but equally powerful: the impact on labor inclusion and the productive chain. Here, the approach has been to link youth with the private and public sector in order to generate real job opportunities.
Integrating AI into this process is key. Through training in digital skills and the use of artificial intelligence tools, young people from Cuzco can improve their professional profile. AI can help them analyse the labour market, identify business niches and optimise their production processes.
For example, a young entrepreneur can use AI algorithms to predict the demand for a product, while another can learn how to use AI to automate repetitive tasks and focus on innovation.
This approach focuses not only on getting a job, but on creating value and strengthening existing production chains. The aim is to connect young people with businesses in the region so that together they can boost the local economy.
The cases of La Troncal and Cúcuta show us that the way to a more prosperous future for youth is through coordinated action. The combination of effective public policies, born from the youth base itself, and the strategic adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence is the formula for success.
At Cardumen Global, we firmly believe in this approach. We are committed to strengthening the capacities of young people so that they are not just spectators, but protagonists of change. Ordinances and advocacy processes are not just documents; they are the platform from which dreams are built and opportunities of tomorrow are created.
The future belongs to young people, and their power to shape it lies at the intersection of politics and technology. What other examples of this synergy do you know in your communities?
